Located inside the Lake District National Park, you can truly get away from it all and experience a little piece of heaven at the Howbeck lodge Feather Down farm in Cumbria on a Lake District glamping holiday. Howbeck Lodge offers a real escape in idyllic surroundings, where you are in the Lake district, but away from the touristy hustle and bustle.

Looking at the map, Howbeck lodge may, to some, seem quite a drive away, but in fact it is only 2 hours from Manchester for a wonderful weekend break! And a drive of 4 hours from Oxford and 5 hours from the centre of London for a week’s break, is only a small effort to really relax and be absorbed by tranquility and peace, with lots to experience on the farm and in the surrounding Lake District.

Howbeck Lodge will also appeal to continental visitors arriving from the ferry at Newcastle upon Tyne; only one and a half hours further travel and a beautiful part of the Lake District area will surround you, whilst enjoying UK farm life at its best from the comfort of your canvas or frills lodge.

Howbeck Farm is a short stroll to the picturesque village of Hesket Newmarket, a small hamlet with an attractive architectural and historic character. The village boasts a lovely children’s play area, a riverside walk and the very popular Old Crown Pub, well worth a visit along with the Hesket Newmarket Brewery Cooperative, which produces a range of wonderful ales. Of course, there is also Hesket Newmarket Agricultural Show, held annually August / September featuring cattle, sheep, horses and poultry, with horticultural and industrial sections, crafts and many other events and attractions.

A stay at Howbeck Lodge on a Lake District glamping vacation allows for many breathtaking walks, access to the famous lakes of the Lake District and beaches at the Solway Firth and enjoyment of nearby rivers.

Howbeck is a traditional, sustainable sheep and beef farm of 300 acres, run by most welcoming and enthusiastic farmers. On the farm there are prize winning Highland cattle, lambs in spring, a brilliant stream to paddle in and lots of other outdoor fun activities. Guests can buy high quality homemade and fresh produce and other essentials at the pretty farm pantry located near the Feather Down accommodations.

Guest’s comments about their stay at Howbeck Lodge underline that it is truly an amazing farm to visit:

“We had a lovely glamping experience on John and Christine’s farm. It was a great authentic rural location to get away from it all, and our children were constantly exploring the farm, building a ‘dam’ across the stream, playing with the bunnies and the other children. That meant we, the parents, also had time to relax! The tent was very cosy and the beds comfortable. Farmer John was very approachable and made us feel at home from the start. Our children (8, 10 and 12 years old) said from day one this was their best holiday ever, so we are keen to come back next summer”.

“Howbeck was the ideal location for our family. Safe and secure farm with plenty to do all day long that kept our 2 yr 9 month old granddaughter occupied. We loved everything about the holiday and would fully recommend Howbeck as the ideal location for us “city dwellers”. The facilties both in the tent and the shower block were exceptional…”
