Brittany is such a great place to visit for France glamping! And in easy reach from the UK with ferry ports in St. Malo, Roscoff, Cherbourg or Le Havre. Brittany has a beautiful coastline with sandy beaches and on the northern coast there is the Emerald coast with impressive tidal changes, as well as unusual and beautiful pink granite formations only to be found in two other places in the world, Corsica and China.
But Brittany also offers a picturesque rural landscape with a special, relaxing feel to it, with quiet villages, bustling market towns and historic castles and château’s. Now there is a new option in combining a holiday in Brittany with a FeatherDown stay at one of the new farms: La Monderais
This new farm, a dairy farm, is located north-east of the city of Rennes in a quiet, gorgeous part of rural Brittany, half a kilometre from the village and two kilometres from restaurants and shops in the village of Saint Germain en Cogles. While enjoying your stay at the farm you can also experience Breton life, culture and history as well the many attractions Brittany has to offer.
Nearby attractions and activities
Just 5 kilometres from the farm and your France glamping focus, there is the botanical garden of upper Brittany parc floral Bretagne with Arcadia gardens, Romantic gardens and Twilight gardens, which display gorgeous seasonal changes in shrubs, flowers and plants. So whether you are staying at La Monderais at Easter, in Summer time or in September/October, a visit to the nearby botanical will always be beautiful!
The city of Fougères is only ten kilometers away for an experience of life in a Breton town. Fougères is famous for having the biggest medieval fortress in Europe with no less than fourteen towers along its ramparts. Château de Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, which is surrounded by lakes, woodland and meadows, is also to be enjoyed.
And as far as outdoor activities, hiking and horseback riding can all be enjoyed in the area of La Monderais. There are also excellent mountain bike paths to explore and Angel Michel park offers carting and laser games. For those who love the Tour the France, an extra incentive to stay at La Monderais farm, is that it is within short reach of the route of the tour in 2016!
Experience Brittany when France glamping
La Monderais is a great base for other day trips.
From your France glamping base, you can visit the walled town of St. Malo with its impressive ramparts and walk around the bustling marina. When driving further along the northern Emerald coast you can experience the biggest tides in Europe, enjoy walking along fine sandy beaches, treat yourself to oysters or a delicious mussel dish and delight in the ‘retro’ charm of the seaside resorts of Dinard, Saint-Lunaire and Saint-Briac-sur-Mer.
Inland, a visit to Rennes, the proud capital of Brittany, is well worth it. The city is well-known for its art and history, as well as iconic festivals and its blend of history, modernity and entertainment. And for those who love castles, fortresses and medieval history, on your way to Rennes there are other attractions worth a stop-over, such as Châteaugiron and its magnificent medieval fortress (‘Donjon de Châteaugiron’) and the impressive ‘Tour Du Guesclin’ North-east of Redon, which is the last intact remains of a fortress which was bitterly fought over during the Hundred Years War.
Dinan, only one hours drive from La Monderais is without doubt one of the best preserved and most attractive small towns in Brittany. Designated a Ville d’Art et d’Histoire (Town of Art and History), with its half-timbered houses, ramparts, attractive port and cobbled streets lined with art galleries, craft shops, sculptors, engravers, bookbinders, glassblowers and waterside restaurants, Dinan is a must-see. The Fête des Remparts medieval festival is held in Dinan each July. And if you visit Dinan on a Thursday, be sure to arrive in the morning so you can experience the traditional market with its Breton atmosphere, delightful stalls and fresh produce….Do not forget to sample a traditional Brittany crêpe at one of the stalls!
During your stay at La Monderais famous Mont Saint Michel with its impressive abbey, narrow winding streets and beautiful bay with amazing tidal changes is only forty kilometres away. And while you are there, close to Mont Saint Michel, the whole family will delight in a visit to Alligator Bay with no less than two hundred alligators and crocodiles in a tropical hothouse, collections of lizards and snakes and a tortoise farm where giant African tortoises can be petted!
And last, but certainly not least, less than one hours drive from La Monderais‘s France glamping, you can explore the mythical heart of Brittany, Brocéliande Forest. This forest is the backdrop to the Legend of King Arthur and with its mysterious woodland, purple moorland and deep valleys, its bewitching charm makes the legend come to live both for both young and old. In Brocéliande Forest you can even find the fountain of youth, although……….a stay at FeatherDown La Monderais is rejuvenating in itself!
